Legend of the Elements, 2nd Edition

Supernatural Martial Arts Action, Powered by the Apocalypse

Legend of the Elements is a tabletop roleplaying game about supernatural martial arts action. It features a group of characters with varying degrees of martial arts skill, magical talent, and worldy (and otherworldly) wisdom, working together to live their lives and achieve their goals.

After the original Legend of the Elements published in 2015, it enjoyed success and I was incredibly proud of the result after years of work. It was, however, still my first fully-published game, and with another half-decade of experience I knew I could make it a lot better. Work on 2nd Edition began in 2021, and it is now a sharper, more evocative, more fun version of itself. It has freed itself from the confines of being modeled directly on Avatar The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra (though they are still prominent touchstones), becoming more itself and more interesting for the shift.

Mechanically, 2nd Edition keeps what worked great (Tags, Chakras, the Playbooks), revising what struggled (Stats, Basic Moves, MC Reactions), and replacing what didn’t work at all (Respect, Plots, Subplaybooks), all while adding some novel systems to further support the game (Campfire Scenes, Lotus City).

A Complete Draft of the game is on my Patreon at the $3 Tier.

The Plan For The Future

The game has reached a fully Complete state! I’ve even completed my playtesting of the general system, and while I might do another round of text revision and layout shifting, with a particular eye to maybe getting some more art back into the game, it could be released today and I’d be proud. However, before I get to that I want to do some final confirmation playtests specifically on the Lotus City material to make sure the things I’ve written are helpful and interesting enough. While I probably only need a few sessions, I’m not ready to call it down and start preparing for its crowdfunding until I’ve done that. Still, this game is very close to completion.
